Mid Trimester Linc-Ed Learning Story
A learning story needs to be completed by your LL's about your work so far in this course. The link below will take you to a Google Form which will collect some information about how you feel about your performance in the course.
NOTE: to access the form you will need to be logged into Google Drive using your school email.

Mathematics and Statistics Assessment
- Assessment task and schedule: AS91038 Probability Assessment task 2019 - Student
- Assessment template for completing the task: AS91038 Probability Assessment answers - name
These two files should be in your 11TGN folder in the AC Google Drive when the assessment starts.
It may be a good idea to put them into a Probability folder.
Conditions of assessment
The assessment is open book.
There will be one week of assessment and it's hoped that submission and re-submission can be done in the week.
Part 1 and 3 of the assessment must be done individually.
Part 2 can be done in a group with the results recorded on a piece of paper. This can be shared within the group. Groups must be 2-3.
What must you hand in
You should hand in any evidence used in doing the assessment. This should be:
1. Your answers
2. Other evidence if relevant such as a spreadsheet
All evidence should be properly named.

- Share your documents with Mr Smirk: [email protected]
- Put a comment on the answer document saying "I would like to submit my assessment".
General Description
To go or not to go, that is the question!
Learners will be planning a holiday with an allocated budget to two different countries. This will require research, problem solving and making financial decisions. In Mathematics learners will carry out a probability investigation comparing theoretical and experimental results. They will then create a computer program using MakeCode and Minecraft. The program will be based on a holiday destination activity researched in this course.
Course Costs for each Trimester: Maths Workbook an optional purchase $6.00 (Purchase in class or pay at stationery shop)
Stationery Requirements: None
The Assessments
The three assessments from three disciplines:
Accounting : Achievement standard 90981 Make a financial decision for an individual or group (3 credits, level 1)
Mathematics and Statistics: Achievement standard 91038 Investigate a situation involving elements of chance (3 credits, level 1)
Digital Technology: Achievement standard 91883 Develop a computer program (4 credits, level 1)

Folder Structure
This is the basic folder structure that should be set up on ID Network Drive. On this drive you have the allocated storage space for the network. The amount of storage varies depending on your year level. To find out how much storage you have RIGHT-CLICK the ID Network Drive and choose Properties.
For the DIGITAL assessment an additional folder should be created in the Digital folder. Name it: AS91071 assessment - your name - your ID This folder needs to be submitted for your assessment evidence. For the MATHS assessment an additional folder is a good idea to keep your assessment documents separate and safe. The Maths assessment files will need to be named to identify them as your own. |

Driving Questions for Probability Course
- Is probability something that is useful to understand?
- What is the probability terminology that I need to know and use?
- What is theoretical probability?
- What is experimental probability?
- How do I run a probability experiment?

The probability line
The way that we talk about probability should refer to the terms on this number line.
For example
The probability of the sun not coming up tomorrow is?
The probability I will need to learn Mathematics in school is?
The probability a flipped coin will be a head?
The probability of choosing a red ball out of a bag with 1 red and 3 blue balls is?

Terminology
Random number generation
Random numbers calculated in a spreadsheet can be used to model probability events. The are two ways we can quickly and easily generate random numbers in Google Sheets.
1. Using the "randbetween" function
2. Using a Random Number Add-on. How to do this is shown in the YouTube video below.
Mean, mode, and median
These concepts are well known but in probability the mean is referred to as the expected value. Here is a spreadsheet of a non-uniform probability distribution. The averages are calculated, and two graphs are produced. Finally some analysis of the results done.
Uniform versus Non-uniform Probability Distribution
The context for the activity in the assessment is a game of chance with a non-uniform probability distribution. To find out more about the difference between these types of probability distributions click here.
