NATURE OF LEARNING PRINCIPLE: ILA'S & WLV's Creative, Curious, Thinking, Joyful.
CONTEXTS FOR LEARNING: Creative ideas, understanding historical & technical architectural precedents, axis & geometry, hand sketching, contemporary design, 3d modeling, virtual reality architecture, pecha kucha & multi media presentation techniques, project management, environmental & self awareness.
STRATEGIES & WAYS OF THINKING: How historical & contemporary architecture relate and incorporate Classics, English & Digital Technology curriculums to present ideas in a variety of ways.
OWNERSHIP OF LEARNING PRINCIPLE: Whole class learning in a collaborative environment, smaller groups focusing on literacy, writing & presentation skills.
MILESTONES & ASSESSMENT OPPORTUNITIES: Collaborative & individual learning over 8 weeks with a 4 week self determined digital architecture project by each Learner or groups of Learners.
CONNECTED, AUTHENTIC & RELEVANT LEARNING PRINCIPLE: Understanding how society relates to historical & contemporary architecture & urban design? How do you personally relate to public & private spaces, how does architecture influence your life? Consider healthy living buildings, architecture for the disabled or infirm, cultural & indigenous architecture, environmental & sustainable socially conscious design. Ask questions about the future of built environments. Good professional job prospects across multiple industries.
GLOCAL COLLABORATIONS: How Learners relate to the historical & contemporary interactions of local and global architecture. Relevant social media learning collaborations.
3 CAR DISCIPLINES: Digital technology, Classics, English.
STRANDS: Technology, English, Social Science.
PUBLIC ARTIFACTS: Self determined digital architecture outcome presented using a variety of multi media techniques.
LITERACY & NUMERACY: There are only literacy credits for this CAR. No numeracy credits.
STATIONARY: Each learner needs a A4 tracing paper pad, 2H & 2B pencils, Artline 210 medium 0.6 black & blue felt pens, scale ruler, approx $20 printing credit

ENGLISH
AS90857 Construct & deliver an oral text.
Over the course of this CAR you will learn about historical & contemporary architecture and keep a portfolio (images, video, text) of your learning.
After you determine what your future focused architectural project is about, you will develop a written or oral text about your project.
Mr Joe is the expert English & Maths Learning leader and he will advise you with your written & oral literacy and the Maths of architecture.

ARCHITECTURAL CONTEXT & BRIEF
OPTION #1: Your own context. What will your 'architecture of the future' look like? Determine your own architectural brief & project.
or
OPTION #2: Use the context described below to create your own future focused architectural project to suit the given brief.
OPTION #2 CONTEXT & BRIEF:
CONTEXT: In 1980 Auckland's population was 800,000 and by 2014 it reached 1.5 million people. It is projected to reach 2 million by 2033. By 2043 Auckland's population could make up 40 percent of New Zealand's population. To accommodate for this growth, new low density housing subdivisions were/are being built in South & West Auckland & the North Shore and in central Auckland high density & high rise apartment are being built.
The new Auckland Unitary Plan is a future focused planning document created to manage Auckland's regional growth. With more people, there needs to be more "built environment" (roads, housing, shops etc) all of which has to fit within Auckland existing land area. The Unitary Plans proposes that 'building up' makes best use of land and allows for more public green spaces (parks, playing fields, public facilities etc) for a growing population to use.
The population of growth in South Auckland is very high, especially in Takanini, Papakura, Clevedon & Flatbush. Alfriston College is at the heart of these local communities so the school roll could increase dramatically in the next 10 years. To accommodate for more Learners, the school will have to build more learning spaces without decreasing the amount of outdoor play & field spaces. The solution is to 'build up' over the existing school buildings.
BRIEF: Design a unique 'learning space' structure to cater for 'future learning' over any of the existing Alfriston College school buildings .
